Georgia tandem tour 2016, version 2.0

americus, ga, september 8-11, 2016

"peanuts, prisoners, and presidents"

ELECTRONIC registration IS NOW OPEN! (16 spots left--DETAILS BELOW)

For the second edition of the Georgia Tandem Tour, we are staying in the same city for the entire weekend. We won't be changing cities like we did in the inaugural ride. You will be able to enjoy three days of riding from the historic Windsor Hotel in Americus, our headquarters for the weekend. Built in 1886, the hotel was renovated 100 years later, and then renovated again in 2010. It's the perfect place for us to base our rides. From here, we will ride to Andersonville, the site of the infamous Civil War POW camp. We will also ride to Plains, and visit the Jimmy Carter Presidential Center. Ride options of 35 or 55 miles per day offer something for every level of rider. The Georgia Tandem Tour is a laid-back weekend, with less socialization and more relaxation. Mark your calendar if you want to attend as this ride is limited to only 35 teams.

Americus is about 30 miles west of Cordele. Use the handy Google map below to figure out how far it is from you.

Here's what we have planned:

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8: The weekend kicks off with a gathering at Floyd's Pub, the bar inside of the Windsor. This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow "tourists" and find out what they look like without spandex.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9: "Pedal to Plains". You can choose the short option of 38 miles or the longer 52-mile version. Both rides go to Plains, the home of Jimmy Carter. Tour the Carter Presidential Center, located in a converted high school. See Billy Carter's old gas station. Eat peanut butter ice cream in beautiful "downtown" Plains.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10: "Pedal to the Prisoners". Ride options of 35 or 58 miles take us to Andersonville, where a huge POW camp was located during the Civil War. You will be amazed at the size of the place, and the museum at this national park will show you just what went on here during the "War of Yankee Aggression". After the ride, we'll enjoy lunch back in Americus. Saturday night, we'll feed you well with a big banquet at the Windsor.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11: "Pedal thru the Peanuts". We've got time for one more ride before we end the tour. Sunday's ride is all peanuts as we ride 37 miles through the fields of Sumter County. Georgia is known as "The Peach State", but in reality the state grows way more peanuts than peaches. On today's ride, you will see why.

GTT TERRAIN: There are some hills on the tour, but nothing you can't handle. Saturday is the hilliest ride of the weekend. Sunday's ride is flatter than the other two days. It's September, so you should be in good shape. Here are the altitude changes according to Ride With GPS.

FRIDAY 38-mile option 1500 feet
  58-mile option 2000 feet
SATURDAY 35-mile option 1500 feet
  54-mile option 2100 feet
SUNDAY 33-mile option 900 feet

GTT COSTS: The Georgia Tandem Tour costs $335 per tandem team. The cost of breakfast is included in the rally cost as opposed to being included in your hotel room cost this year. Either way, you have to pay! The price of the tour includes your GTT t-shirt, three days of breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, maps, GTT SWAG, electronic registration, and hopefully some ice cream. The price does not include your hotel room for the weekend.

GTT REFUND POLICY: You can get a full refund (minus a $50 refund fee) until August 7, 2016. There are absolutely, positively no refunds after August 7, 2016.
